Our story
R. D. Jenkins & Son, Inc. is an innovative funeral service provider committed to excellence and the highest level of professionalism within the death care industry. Grounded in compassion and integrity, the company stands prepared to meet the evolving challenges of the twenty-first century while remaining faithful to its mission of service.
The story of R. D. Jenkins & Son, Inc. is one that is truly just beginning. Elder Roddrick D. Jenkins, a native of Northampton County, Virginia, now resides in the Hampton Roads area. He is the son of Charlie A. Jenkins and the late Evangelist Myrtle E. Jenkins, whose legacy of faith and service continues to shape his life and calling.
Elder Jenkins attended the public schools of Accomack County, Virginia, and later answered the call to further his education in Atlanta, Georgia, where he graduated from Gupton–Jones College of Funeral Service. Shortly after matriculating, he successfully passed the National Conference of Funeral Service Examination Board examination. During his time in the Atlanta region, he had the distinct privilege of working under the late Mr. Donald Trimble, a renowned restorative artist credited with dressing and restoring the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., where he gained invaluable experience in restorative art techniques.
Following graduation, Elder Jenkins returned to Virginia’s Eastern Shore to begin his professional internship. After completing his residency, he successfully passed the Virginia Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers examination in 1996, formally establishing his career in funeral service. In 2014, he continued his theological education at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University, where he is currently working toward a Master of Divinity and a Master of Christian Education.
As the Psalmist David declared, “I have been young, and now am old,” a reflection that reminds us that time brings wisdom, growth, and transformation. Elder Jenkins’ ministry is a divine calling given by God to edify and build His Kingdom. Embracing that calling wholeheartedly, he remains steadfast and passionate in his service to the Lord. Since being licensed to preach the Gospel, his focus has been unwavering—Kingdom building through faith, service, and discipleship.
Through God’s will, Elder Jenkins continues to cultivate and shepherd God’s people, both spiritually and professionally, believing that every individual must experience a personal relationship with God—one that sustains, supports, and guides them throughout life’s journey.
Elder R. D. Jenkins serves God’s people with humility and dedication, whether in his professional capacity or in service to God’s Church.
We are honored to serve families who are insured, underinsured, or not insured at all, ensuring that every family receives dignified, compassionate, and respectful care.
