Staff Sergeant Cora Anne Chapman, United States Army (Retired) Ms. Cora Anne Chapman was born on August 25, 1951, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to the late Flossie Irene Harris, born in North Carolina, and the late Thad Chapman, also born in North Carolina. From an early age, Cora embodied discipline, resilience, and a strong sense of duty—qualities that would define both her military career and her life of public service. Cora honorably served her country in the United States Army, Regular Army, entering active duty on December 2, 1981. She served continuously and faithfully for 19 years and 8 months, retiring from active duty on December 31, 2001, having completed sufficient service for retirement. Her career spanned peacetime service and the Gulf War era, reflecting a sustained and dependable commitment to national defense. During her military career, Cora attained the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6). Her primary military occupational specialty was 71L30, Administrative Specialist, a role requiring exceptional organizational skill, integrity, leadership, and trust. In this capacity, she provided vital administrative, personnel, and operational support essential to mission readiness and command effectiveness. Her assignments included service under U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Monroe, Virginia, and she served under major commands that required both stateside and overseas readiness. Throughout her career, Staff Sergeant Chapman was recognized for professionalism, reliability, and excellence in noncommissioned officer leadership. These accomplishments reflected her adaptability, dedication to lifelong learning, and commitment to excellence as a senior noncommissioned officer. Staff Sergeant Cora Anne Chapman retired honorably from the United States Army, leaving behind a legacy of faithful service, leadership, and devotion to duty. Following her retirement from active military service, Cora continued her dedication to national service through federal employment. She later served with the Department of Defense, Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), where she was employed from 2008 to 2019. At the Defense Intelligence Agency, Cora held the position of Staff Officer, Position Title OSBA12, Position Number A05207. She served with professionalism and discretion until her retirement on September 30, 2019, concluding a combined military and federal career spanning nearly four decades of service to the United States. Cora furthered her professional development by earning a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Saint Leo University in Florida. Her academic achievement complemented her military and civilian service, reflecting her commitment to growth, structure, and excellence. On Sunday, December 21, 2025, Cora Anne Chapman transitioned from this life. Notification of her passing was received at 5:52 a.m. from Complete Care at Green Acres in Bayville, New Jersey (08721). Cora Anne Chapman will be remembered with honor and respect for her distinguished military career, her continued service to the nation as a federal civilian employee, and her life marked by discipline, integrity, and unwavering commitment to duty.
