Mrs. Vashti Lois Washington

Vashti Lois Dixon Washington, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, was born on September 9, 1934, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Simon Peter Dixon and Mollie Virginia Dixon. On July 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and the grace of God, Vashti peacefully transitioned from this earthly life into eternal rest. Vashti graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1951. After working in various positions over the years, she began her career with the Naval Supply Center in 1967. As an Accounting Technician, she faithfully served for nearly three decades until her retirement in January 1995. Never one to remain idle, she later continued serving her community by working for the Virginia Beach City Public Schools for several years. Vashti found joy in shopping not only for herself but especially for others. She loved visiting thrift stores and had a remarkable gift for finding treasures and bargains. Her generosity was unmatched; if someone was in need, Vashti was always ready to help. She believed no one should ever have to go without and quietly gave from her heart. Family was one of Vashti’s greatest blessings. She expressed her love through cooking and hospitality. One of the family’s most cherished traditions was the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners she lovingly hosted alongside her beloved sister, Emma. These gatherings created treasured memories that will live on for generations. A woman of unwavering faith, Vashti was deeply devoted to the Lord. She became a member of New Calvary Baptist Church at an early age, where she faithfully worshipped for many years. She loved her church family and joyfully served as a dedicated member of the church choir. Her passion for gospel music also led her to become a member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, where she traveled and shared her love of music and ministry. Vashti was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Major O. Washington; her cherished daughter, Gwendolyn J. Doby; her siblings, Emma West, Simon P. Dixon, Jr., and James A. Dixon; her niece, Virginia D. Tolbert; and her grandsons, Kevin S. Washington II and Leonard Doby. She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving sons, Larry Johnson and Kevin Washington (Teresa); along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by her kindness and love. Vashti will forever be remembered for her gentle spirit, generous heart, steadfast faith, and unconditional love for her family. Her life was a beautiful reflection of compassion, service, and grace. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, generosity, and faith in God will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her. “Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” Matthew 25:23 Please keep the Washington family in your thoughts and prayers during this time of bereavement.
